“I didn’t know how to Fly Fish” I arrived in Tumut to start Fly Fishing. It occurred to me I didn’t know how to Fly Fish despite my video watching. I also had not booked accommodation. After reading a regional tourist newspaper, I saw an ad that said ” phone Tane for a nice relaxed and friendly talk” So I did, I then had accommodation at Boutique Motel Sefton House along with a half day Tumut Fly Fishing lesson with Tane. My heart problems restrict me somewhat. Tane’s understanding of “kinetics” allowed him to develop his unique approach. The beauty of Tane’s technique and approach is the efficiency, simplicity and fluidity of motion which not only makes Fly Fishing “easier”, but less stressful, less “raw” energy involvement and more harmonious with the whole body. At the end of the “lesson”, I reflected to myself that I was breathing better, I was more focused on muscle relaxation, I was standing and moving for 6 hours, and best of all, I have a Fly Fishing technique and understanding I never had previously. “Awesome intro to “philosophy” of Fly Fishing” I had the good fortune to meet Tane for a 3 day introduction course to fly fishing while staying at Sefton House. Learning to fly fish was always on my “bucket list” but little did I realise how it combined the technical mechanics of a golf swing with a real sense of being at one with nature as you learn the basic requirements of stream craft. I had a great time learning the basics of casting from Tane and being able to practise his unique kinetic powercast techniques. It wasn’t all technique as Tane was a great instructor and real gentlemen so the varied conversation and breaks for coffee and Renaa’s wonderful picnic lunch made the 3 days seem to “fly” by. Tane’s approach to prospective clients for both his motel and Tumut fly fishing courses is slightly unusual as he wants to talk to you in detail about your needs first before taking a booking. Having spent time with Tane, you come to understand why he does this and how it only adds to the wonderful experience of staying at Sefton House and spending time with him in the beautiful Tumut area. He has got me really interested in taking my fly fishing skills further and I hope to become a more frequent visitor back to the Tumut area in the future!  ” Doug

“A NEW BEGINNING” I would like to share my experience with others on learning how to fly fish with Tane. I have always loved fishing. Am not an expert in any particular field of fishing but love the relaxation of it all. After watching shows on T.V about fly fishing I always assumed that it was a bit too hard to do. My husband doug asked if I would like to have a go. He organised a holiday to Tumut and fly fishing lessons with Tane. So here I was getting lessons off Tane. He assured me that it is not that hard once you know how to cast. Tane has this very simple and unique technique that is very kind to your body. I have to say, that I have not met anyone so passionate about his fly fishing. It is quite contagious. He was amazing. In a few days I learned how to cast with ease. WOW!,,,, I have to give Tane a big ” thank you” for being so patient with me. Your technique is truly amazing. Can’t wait to catch my first trout. Till next time!!!!!

You must agree to all of these terms and conditions, and the terms and conditions at the bottom of the website page, but not limited to and a credit card as security is required for any breakage or damage to equipment prior to any participation. Any damage or loss of loan gear shall be reimbursed to us at replacement cost immediately on the day. You must advise us immediately if you have any pre existing health issues or become aware of any other health issues that may endanger you or anyone around you. No liability or claim is accepted or implied for any reason whatsoever and all persons who choose to participate in this experience of fly fishing, do hereby accept all responsibilities for their own health, safety, losses, damage, actions, negligence etc; Protective eyewear and sensible footwear must be worn during entire fly fishing session, or session will be terminated. No sharp hooks will be used during the session unless proof of competency and at least 3 years experience can be demonstrated,  and  indemnify and shall continue to indemnify in perpetuity, the instructor and all other parties against any liability or claim by you or any associated parties related to you or on behalf of you, arising out of the fly fishing experience and the courtesy gear or equipment, sunscreen, fly repellent etc  used and for any courtesy refreshments consumed, and shall accept full liability and responsibility for their own  belongings during their fly fishing experience, and any advice given is general in nature and shall not be relied upon, and agree that upon acceptance of this; this form stating these terms, conditions and disclaimer will be required to be signed below prior to any involvement or commencement. All children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult and it is the adults total responsibility for the child. If you change your mind during the session and decide not to proceed any further, there will be no reimbursement, a full forfeit of all monies paid will be effective immediately and no negotiation will be entered into. Non compliance with any of these terms or any inappropriate behaviour which could cause injury to yourself or others will result in the immediate termination of the session, a full forfeit of all monies paid will be effective immediately and no negotiation will be entered into.
