Rosewood has a distinctive charm all of its own. Only 23kms from Tumbarumba along the Wagga Road, Rosewood is home to Southern NSW’s first Rail Trail, a vibrant, revitalised track for walking and cycling that stretches from Albury Street Tumbarumba along the historical rail corridor to McEachern Lane in Rosewood.
Places to Stay & to Eat in Rosewood
Nearby, Gone Barny Nursery started life as a barn, but is now home to a café, famous for their milkshakes. Filled with beautiful gifts, jewellery, a nursery and an Australia Post office, Gone Barny distil their own eucalyptus oil and hand-make eucalyptus soaps.
Rosewood’s 18-hole golf course will challenge the average golfer yet can accommodate learners without too much difficulty and is regarded as a very friendly, flat course for social golfers. The recently renovated Rosewood Golf Club is a haven for budget campers seeking un-powered sites with access to toilets and showers. Enjoy a relaxing drink or a meal while you take in the rural views or entertainment from their new back deck. Rosewood’s General Store, although small, offers all the necessities.
Events & Things to Do in Rosewood
Rosewood is one of the trailheads of the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail, the wonderful 21km trail for cycling, walking, running and strolling. It’s also where you’ll find the famous roadside Gnome Retirement Village, where new residents are always welcome. You can even kick off your shoes in Rosewood’s Memorial Park and make a contribution to the heavily laden ‘Boot Tree’ in the carpark.
An exciting annual calendar of events including the Rosewood Rodeo, Stockman’s Challenge, Tractor Pull Truck and Car Show and the Annual Bonfire and Fireworks means the Rosewood Sports Club is always at the epi-centre of all the action.
The most action packed evening of the summer is in mid-December when the Australian Professional Rodeo Association brings the best local and interstate cowgirls and cowboys to Rosewood to compete against Australia’s toughest bucking stock at Australia’s best little rodeo. The horse riding excitement continues in January when the Stockman’s Challenge Premiership comes to town for a weekend bringing with it some of the best Challenge horses and riders in Australia.
The Tractor Pull Truck and Car Show rolls into Rosewood in March and is fun for young and old, featuring vintage and muscle cars, old and new trucks, stationary engines, a swap meet and the highly contested tractor pull.
